HONOLULU ? Twenty-first ranked Hawaii (33-7, 6-0 WAC) swept Louisiana Tech (16-17, 0-3) in a softball doubleheader late Saturday night 9-0 and 7-3 at the Rainbow Wahine Softball Complex.

In the second game of the day, Hawaii sophomore pitcher Justine Smethurst (13-5, 2-0 WAC) picked up the win and junior Jessica Morton earned a save throwing the final three-plus innings.

Hawaii jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the first two innings against Tech starter Krissi Oliver. With two outs in the bottom of the first, Kate Robinson drilled a double to the left-centerfield gap, driving in two runs and giving Hawaii a 2-0 advantage.

In the second, Hawaii added three more runs as Valana Manuma led the inning off with a solo home run over the leftfield fence and Gould ripped a two-out double to right-centerfield making the score 5-0 Hawaii.

Tech fought back, plating three runs in the top of the fifth inning as Carly White, Danielle Sheridan and Amberly Waits all registered run-scoring singles to make the game 5-3. The bases were still loaded with only one out before Hawaii Morton came in to retire the next two batters.

The score would remain that way until the bottom of the sixth, when UH would add a couple of insurance runs.

Oliver (11-12) threw a complete game, giving up seven runs on 10 hits with two walks and two strike outs.

Sheridan and Rochelle Sandberg led Tech with two hits each in the loss.
Hawaii blanked Tech 9-0 in only five innings in the first contest of the afternoon as the Rainbow Wahine scored four in the first, one in the second, one in the third and three more in the fourth to down the Lady Techsters.

Tech registered five hits in the game as Regan Clark recorded two and Sandberg, Waits and White each had one.

Mandi Bertsch (4-4) picked up the loss, allowing nine earned runs on 13 hits and one walk in 3.1 innings of action.

Tech returns to action Tuesday when it faces Top 25 Alabama in a 4 p.m. doubleheader in Tuscaloosa.
