Bulldogs Sweep Dallas Baptist
Boxscore I Boxscore II
RUSTON, La. ? The Louisiana Tech Bulldogs took both ends of a doubleheader Saturday to sweep a weekend series against Dallas Baptist. Each game was won in different fashion by Tech (22-14) with the second coming with a stellar pitching performance by Dylan Moseley.
Moseley pitched a complete game to get the 3-2 win in Game 2 and said he wanted the ball when it came down the wire.
?There?s no doubt,? Moseley said of wanting to stay in the game. ?Other than the competitive edge, my pitch count was low and I wanted to finish the game.?
Moseley allowed two earned runs on eight hits and walked just one batter while striking out five. Tech coach Wade Simoneaux said he was happy with Moseley?s performance against a solid Dallas Baptist (16-16) team.
?Moseley threw very good,? Simoneaux said. ?To have one walk in nine innings is outstanding. He pitched well against a very good hitting Dallas Baptist team. They?re as good as anybody in our conference. There?s no doubt about that.?
Game 2 was won by playing a little small ball as well. With Tech ahead 2-1 in the fourth inning catcher Drew Thomas dropped a push sacrifice bunt down the first base line to plate Brandon Hudson. The run proved important as it was the game-winning run after Dallas Baptist scored in the eighth.
The first game saw Tech?s bats come alive to get the win. The Bulldogs tallied 11 hits in the 11-8 win with Albie Goulder and Brian Rike both hitting home runs. In Game 1, Rike hit 2-for-3 with an RBI and four runs. Hudson hit 3-for-4 with three RBIs, and Courtney Jones hit 2-for-4 with three RBIs and two runs.
Simoneaux said his team came up with hits when they were needed and pitched well all weekend to sweep the Patriots against a team with a lot of talent.
?Dallas Baptist pitched extremely well, and we faced two draftable arms,? Simoneaux said. ?It?s hard to sweep anyone. Average to bad teams will come in and it?s hard to sweep them. You have to do a lot of things right to sweep a team, especially of the caliber that team was.?
Moseley said the sweep lifted the team?s spirits after disappointing losses earlier in the week.
?This is a big boost for the team after the team meeting we had at Northwestern State,? Moseley said. ?We did all the things we said we were going to do in that meeting. We actually fulfilled exactly what we said we had to do.?
Tech will be back in conference action Thursday for the first of a three-game series with New Mexico State at home.
