Boxscore I Boxscore II
WACO, Texas ? The 16th ranked Baylor Bears used one good inning in each game to sweep a softball doubleheader from Louisiana Tech Saturday by scores of 5-0 and 8-0.
The bottom of the fifth inning proved to be the Lady Techsters Achilles Heal during the day as Baylor scored four runs in game one to blow open what had been a 1-0 lead and scored five runs in game two in the same frame with the contest scoreless.
Tech starting pitcher Krissi Oliver allowed one unearned run in the bottom of the first inning of game No. 1 before settling down against the Bears. The score remained 1-0 until Tech (13-10) made three errors behind Oliver in the bottom of the fifth inning as Baylor capitalized and pulled away for the win.
Oliver (8-6) picked up the loss for Tech despite allowing only one earned run on seven hits and three walks in the complete game effort.
Offensively, Tech managed only three hits as Carly White, Kylie Bassett and Rochelle Sandberg each registered base knocks.
In game No. 2 of the day, Tech starting pitcher Mandi Bertsch was in complete control holding Baylor to only three hits over the first four innings of play. However, the flood gates opened in the bottom of the fifth as the Bears scored five runs on four hits and two walks.
Oliver came on in relief and retired Baylor in the fifth. However, she promptly allowed three runs on five hits in the bottom of the sixth as the game was stopped due to the eight-run rule.
Danielle Sheridan led Tech?s five-hit attack in the second game with two singles while Emma Barnes, Summer Young and Bassett each added one hit.
The two teams will complete the three-game series Sunday at 1 p.m.
