Bulldogs Drop Slugfest at Monroe
Boxscore
MONROE, La. ? The Louisiana Tech baseball team fell 12-9 in a slugfest on the road to the UL-Monroe Warhawks on Wednesday night. Tech pulled ahead early for a 2-0 lead in the first inning only to have the lead disappear as the Warhawks scored three in the bottom half of the inning.
Tech reclaimed the lead in the second with two runs, but ULM again responded with four runs to go up 7-4. The Warhawks added another run in the third to increase the lead.
?They really outplayed us tonight,? said Tech head coach Wade Simoneaux. ?They out hit us and out pitched us.?
There were five lead changes in the game, but ULM had the last one in the eighth inning to get the victory.
Tech (34-22) trailed by four entering the sixth when the Bulldogs went on a rally. Dennis Winn led-off the inning with a single, followed by another single by Brandon Hudson. Courtney Jones pinch hit for Kevin Winn, and singled to load the bases with no outs. ULM (29-25) kept starting pitcher James Stephens in to pitch to Jericho Jones, who was pinch hitting for Alex Richard. Jericho Jones unloaded the bases with a grand slam to right field to tie the game.
?Jericho has been struggling lately, and that was a chance for him to get in there and do something,? Simoneaux said. ?He actually broke his bat on that grand slam. It was a chance for him to get a crack at it and he popped one good.?
Unfortunately for Tech, Jericho Jones? grand slam was not enough as ULM loaded the bases in the eighth inning and scored three runs. A single by Ty Rollinson unloaded the bases as he was credited with two RBIs, and the third run scored on an error by Patrick Thomas. The three runs proved to be enough as David Mixon put the game on ice for the Warhawks.
The two teams will face again at 6:30 p.m. Friday in each team?s regular season finale in Monroe.
