RUSTON, La. - Louisiana Tech pitcher Krissi Oliver pitched a complete game shutout against UL-Monroe on Sunday afternoon in a 1-0 battle. Oliver allowed five hits, struck out three and did not walk a batter in the win.
Oliver and the Lady Techsters found themselves in a tight spot in the final inning when the first two batters hit safely to put runners on first and second with no outs. Oliver was able to get the next two batters to hit ground balls to short stop Amberly Waits. Waits threw the lead runner out at third base the first time around and tagged the runner on the second grounder. Oliver then struck out Christy Waguespack to end the game.
"Krissi pitched one heck of a game today," said Tech coach Sarah Dawson. "She was especially good in the last inning when she got in that jam. I'm very proud of how he remained calm and how our defense made the plays we needed throughout the game."
Tech's lone run came in the third inning when Emma Barnes walked with one out, and Danielle Sheridan grounded out to advance Barnes to second. With two outs, Waits came up with the big hit up the middle to plate Barnes. The one run proved to be enough to get the win for Tech.
"This was a good win," Dawson said. "You like winning every time; but when you win a 1-0 game like this, it's a little bit better."
The Techsters will play host to North Texas in a doubleheader Wednesday at 2 p.m.
