RUSTON, La. - The Louisiana Tech softball team battled in the fifth inning to avoid being run-ruled by No. 24 UL-Lafayette, but it was not enough to defeat the Ragin' Cajuns. The Lady Techsters scored three runs in the fifth but eventually fell 8-3.
Tech (1-2) could not generate enough offense off ULL (3-0) pitcher Ashley Brignac. The freshman gave up three hits and did not allow one until Tech's fifth inning rally. Brignac struck out 13 batters and walked five on the day.
The Cajuns opened their lead with three runs in the second and third inning each. Jessica Dupont led the offense for ULL hitting 2-for-3 with two RBI. Brooke Brodhead also had a solid game for the Cajuns hitting 1-for-2 with two walks, an RBI and two runs.
Tech's offense was led by Amberly Waits as she drove in two runs and scored a run. Elizabeth Franklin got Tech's scoring started with a one-out double to the fence in right-center field. She later scored. Franklin's hit was Tech's first of the game.
Jordan Simmons earned her first loss of the season for Tech throwing three innings and allowing six runs, five earned, on six hits. Meghan Krieg threw three innings in relief and allowed two runs, both earn, on two hits.
