RENO - Nevada hurlers Jordan McPherson and Richelle Villescas combined to pitch a no-hitter in an 8-0 win over Louisiana Tech Saturday to complete a three-game sweep of the Lady Techsters this weekend.
Nevada beat Tech 8-7 and 12-2 on Friday.
McPherson (12-9) picked up the win, striking out four while allowing zero hits and no walks in 4.0 innings of action. Villescas pitched a perfect fifth inning as the game was stopped due to the eight-run rule.
The 18th ranked Wolf Pack (35-14, 13-2 WAC) won its seventh straight game while Tech (29-26, 7-10) finished its Western Athletic Conference slate. The Lady Techsters end the regular season Tuesday night against UL-Monroe in Monroe at 5 p.m.
Tech is currently in fifth place in the WAC but could move up to fourth if Top 15 Fresno State sweeps New Mexico State in Fresno next weekend.
Nevada exploded for seven runs in the bottom of the second inning off Tech starter Krissi Oliver (14-13). The Wolf Pack used six hits, one walk and one hit batter in the offensive explosion.
Tech's Kylie Bassett reached base on an error by the Nevada shortstop in the second inning, the only thing preventing the Wolf Pack from pitching a perfect game.
Freshman hurler Wanda Malone came on in relief of Oliver and was impressive for Tech, allowing only one run on one hit and one walk in 2.2 innings of action.
