Box Score

NATCHITOCHES, LA. - Northwestern State came up with a couple big two-out hits and the Lady Demons executed in extra innings to down Louisiana Tech 5-4 in eight innings Wednesday night.

Tech (23-21) lost the game despite out-hitting NSU (8-34) 14-7, and the Lady Techsters fell to 0-4 in extra inning games this year.

The Lady Techsters left 12 runners on base in the game, including at least one in every inning while the Lady Demons scored five runs on only seven hits thanks in large part to a pair of clutch hits.

Carly Bruno was one of the heroes for NSU as she drove home the game-winning run with a sacrifice fly to centerfield in the bottom of the eighth inning, scoring Amanda Jameson who started the inning on second base due to the international tiebreaker rule.

Tech was unable to capitalize on the international tiebreaker rule in its half of the frame as Emma Barnes was unable to move Heather Doiron - who started the frame on second base - as she grounded out to the pitcher. Danielle Sheridan moved Doiron to third with a groundout to first and then Amberly Waits was retired on strikes, ending the inning.

The Lady Techsters took a 1-0 lead in the top of the third on an RBI single by Kylie Bassett, scoring Regan Clark.

After keeping NSU without a hit for the first three innings, Tech starter Mandi Bertsch struggled in the fourth as the Lady Demons scored three runs on three hits to take a 3-1 advantage. The big hit was a two-out, two-run single by Kelly Corliss.

Tech cut the lead to 3-2 in the top of the fifth as Krissi Oliver doubled home Bassett. A Doiron solo home run in the top of the sixth tied the game at 3-3 and then Waits gave Tech the lead with an RBI single scoring Barnes.

NSU tied the game at 4-4 with a two-out single in the bottom of the sixth by Ainsley Pellerin which scored Bruno.

Freshman Meghan Krieg (4-2) took the loss, allowing one unearned run on one hit in 1.2 innings of action.

Waits, Summer Young and Doiron led Tech offensively with three hits each.

Tech returns to action Friday when it hosts No. 13 ranked Fresno State at 4 p.m. in a doubleheader.
