24th Ranked Baylor Slips by LA Tech 4-3

Box Score WACO -- Alex Colver's RBI single in the bottom of the seventh lifted 24th ranked Baylor to a 4-3 win over Louisiana Tech Saturday afternoon at the QTI Invitational at Getterman Stadium.

Tech trailed 3-0 heading into the top of the sixth inning as Baylor freshman hurler Whitney Canion hadn't allowed a Lady Techster hit through the first five innings.

However, Summer Young led the top of the sixth off with a single to centerfield and Doiron followed with a bunt single. Emma Barnes then loaded the bases with a single to centerfield.

One out later, Waits singled to right field scoring Young but Doiron was thrown out at home as Tech cut the lead to 3-1. With two outs Kylie Bassett laced a single off the third baseman's glove plating two and tying the game at 3-3.

Baylor rallied in the bottom of the seventh inning as Tech reliever Wanda Malone allowed back to back singles before Dawson brought Krieg into pitch. After Krieg recorded an infield pop up for the first out of the inning, Alex Colver singled home the game-winning run to end the contest.

"I feel that today that we were in control," Dawson said. "It was a feeling I had last year in the conference tournament and the NCAA Tournament. I've been waiting for that feeling this year.

"From the very first pitch of the ULM game, I felt like our kids were in control. We played with a confident attitude. Baylor is a very impressive team that has run-ruled everyone they've played in this tournament. We got off to a slow start but came around and gave ourselves a chance. I hope our team can use this as we move forward."

Oliver got the start for Tech and pitched admirably, allowing three runs on six hits and two walks in 5.0 innings of action. Malone (0-1) took the loss, allowing one run on two hits and one walk in 1.0 innings of work.

Tech returns to action Sunday at 10 a.m. vs. Rutgers in the final game of the tournament. Tech will also play Wednesday when it travels to Hammond to face Southeastern Louisiana in a doubleheader starting at 4 p.m.
