Bulldogs Head to Lafayette for Louisiana Classics

March 8, 2009

LAFAYETTE, La. -- The Louisiana Tech Bulldog golf team returns to action Monday, March 9, in the Louisiana Classics Invitational hosted by Louisiana-Lafayette and teeing off at the Oakbourne Country Club.

"This is a great tournament and venue," Tech head coach Jean Hall said. "It's a very strong field of teams, and we're excited to be playing here."

Last time the Bulldogs played, they finished ninth at the All-American Classic in Spring, Texas, after they shot 305 in the first round, 301 in the second and 314 in the third and final round Tuesday morning at the Traditions Course at the Cypresswood Golf Club. Bulldog freshman Patrick Blunt had Tech's best finish of the tournament after shooting 224 total (72+76+76) to tie for 19th place overall.

"Patrick has been playing very well for us, as Matthew Harvey has, too," Hall added. "It will also be our first chance to see (freshman) Jonathan Bale play for us, so we're looking forward to that."

Tech will play 54 holes over Monday and Tuesday at the par 72 course. Participating in the tournament beside the Bulldogs will be Colorado, Kansas, Louisiana-Lafayette, Memphis, New Orleans, North Texas, Rice, Richmond, SMU, Southeastern, Texas State, UALR, UMKC and UTSA.

Monday's shotgun start is set for 8 a.m.
