RUSTON -- Louisiana Tech head coach Jean Hall announced Friday that Tyler Junior College standout Cody Blankenship will transfer to Tech and become a Bulldog next season.
"Cody is an excellent young man," Hall said. "He's just like out other golfers: a good combination of academic and golf talent. He's a very steady player and should fit in very well with our program."
Blankenship has played two seasons at Tyler JC under head coach Sandy Terry and has medaled in three tournaments, led his team to the Texas State Championships and was named to the Ping All-American team as a freshman. He has helped the Apaches to six tournament wins and winning nationals while shooting a 72.1 average in tournament play.
"I'm excited about coming to Tech because of the opportunities," Blankenship said. "I just fell in love with Squire Creek and the facilities it has to offer. Coach Hall has been more than helpful in getting me to Louisiana Tech and getting me excited to play for his team. I just see an endless amount of opportunities to better my game in Ruston and improve towards becoming a professional player."
In high school, Blankenship lettered all four seasons while leading Rockwall High School to two district titles and an appearance in the State Championships in Texas. His senior season he averaged 74.5 strokes in tournament play.
Blankenship joins Hayden Stephens who signed with the Bulldogs in November during the early signing period.
