HENDERSON, Nevada -- Louisiana Tech's Bulldog golf team will participate in the Club Glove 2009 WAC Championships at the Rio Secco Golf Club where all nine teams from the conference will be competing for the conference title starting Monday, April 27.
"We excited to be playing on this beautiful golf course," Tech head coach Jean Hall said. "This is (former coach of Tiger Woods) Butch Harmon's home course, and he will be addressing all the teams. It's just a great venue."
Utah State is the host school, and an automatic berth in the NCAA Regionals is at stake for all teams.
The Bulldogs will tee off on the par-72, 7,332-yard course at 9:20 a.m. Monday morning. New Mexico State is the returning team champion from last season, while now-graduated Boise State's Tory Merritt won last season's individual title. Frenso State's Grant Doverspike has the chance to win his second WAC individual title after winning in 2007.
Seniors Amrith de Soysa and Corey Bartlett, junior Matt Harvey and freshmen Cody Santone and Jonathan Bale will be Tech's five playing the championships.
"We're certainly excited for our seniors in their last tournament," Hall said. "We're looking forward to competing this week."
Last season, Tech finished seventh overall at the Cinnabar Hills Golf Club in San Jose, Calif.
