HENDERSON, Nev. -- Louisiana Tech's golf season closed out Wednesday afternoon on the final of the Club Golf 2009 WAC Championships at the 7,332-yard, par-72 Rio Secco Golf Course in Henderson, Nevada.
Despite staying in seventh place, the Bulldogs shot the fourth best round of the day at 293 as a team. Overall, the Bulldogs shot 906 (296-317-293=906.)
"We played fairly well for two of the three days," Louisiana Tech head coach Jean Hall said. "On the second day, the wind became an issue, and we didn't handle that well."
Senior Amrith de Soysa finished with Tech's highest place tied for 12th overall after shooting 221 for the tournament (73-77-71=221). Junior Matthew Harvey finished tied for 25th (78-80-71=229), while freshman Cody Santone finished tied at 27th (78-78-75=231). Freshman Jonathan Bale finished tied for 29th (74-82-76=232), and senior Corey Bartlett rounded out Tech's finishers at 38th (71-87-78=236).
"I was very proud of Amrith," Hall said. "He and Matthew both had good final days. The WAC and the Rio Secco did a fantastic job. This was probably the best tournament we've played in since I've been here. We didn't finish where we wanted to, but we have a fantastic group of guys this university can be proud of."
New Mexico State would win the overall championships, and the Aggies' Travis Reid was the individual champion.
