RUSTON, La. - Louisiana Tech outfielder Justin Gordey was named first team All-Jayhawk League on Wednesday along with being selected to the National Baseball Congress World Series All American Team on August 20th for his performance during the summer baseball season.
The Bossier City, La. native played for the Liberal (KS) BeeJays. The BeeJays finished third in the Jayhawk League, and made it all the way to the semi-finals of the NBC World Series before losing to the Anchorage (AK) Glacier Pilots.
Gordey led the Jayhawk League in hitting for most of the summer, and finished in the top five by season's end. He batted .365 in 96 at bats while recording two home runs, 15 RBIs and a .417 OBP. He was also an impressive nine for 12 in stolen bases. During the NBC World Series he finished as the 10th top hitter of over 300 of the NBC's top hitters with a .393 average in 22AB.
The redshirt sophomore played in 20 games, while starting nine for the Bulldogs last season.
