Head Coach Matt SonnichsenOn the game:
"We played very well against them. We had flashes in the first and second game where we did what we wanted to do offensively and defensively but (Hawai'i) is the sixth-ranked team in the country for a reason. I was very proud on how we were able to stay within our systems and we had some success."
On the performance of the team during the third set:
"We did well in the third set. I was very happy with our composure and the fact that our team just didn't lay down. We still had the opportunity to play and work on our skills and our systems and I was very happy with the way our team just did not roll over."
On the production from the middle blockers:
"If you pass, you can run your middles. We passed pretty well tonight so that was encouraging against a top team. We are still trying to get everybody on the same page and trying to get our rotations down. Kara Jones and Gabyrel Ording did well. Gabby wasn't the tallest middle on the court but she had a very high hitting percentage and she did everything that she possibly could."
Senior MB Kara JonesOn the team's performance tonight:
"We really brought our `A' game today and we really brought the fire. We haven't seen that in such a long time. We went out today expecting to win and we played really well. The fact Hawai'i is ranked sixth in the country and we stayed that close to them - I feel so much better about the rest of the season. That was our hardest part of the season right there."
On the lineup adjustment in the second and third sets:
"Clara Vido brings a type of fire to the team that I can't even explain. Anytime anybody does anything good she is jumping up and yelling. She is loud and she is fist pumping - doing whatever it takes to keep the team fired up. That is something that we have really needed."
Sophomore MB Gabryel OrdingOn her 1.000 attack efficiency:
"I'm a short middle so going in I had to be smart with what I did with the ball when I got it. Every time I went up I had to make a decision on whether or not I was going to hit it into the block or tip it. Every time I tipped the ball it tended to work so I just kept doing it."
On the high energy that the team played with:
"It was really intense. We had Teresa Weatherspoon come and talk with us (before the match) and she really pumped us up. She gave us confidence that we could play with Hawai'i and whether or not we won, we just had to give it our all. There were times that we kind of broke that intensity but I think ending the match at 25-23 was a great accomplishment. I look forward to playing them again in Hawai'i."
On the team's confidence heading into the rest of WAC play:
"Coming out of the break we could have folded but we didn't. We just kept pushing points no matter what. It's a great feeling (to play Hawai'i tough) and it gives us that motivation to go into the rest of WAC play and look at everyone as if they are Hawai'i."
On the energy that Clara Vido brings to the floor:
"The team missed her when she was out. She is a really dominant outside hitter. She is small but her hits are really hard and we adjusted well to that."
