Louisiana Tech juniors Elne Barnard and Anna Zureck teamed up and won the doubles title at the UWF Fall Fling on Sunday in Pensacola, Fla.

The duo entered the tournament as the four seed and defeated IIona Serchenko and Ralista Pirdopska of McNeese State in the championship match 8-3. To make the finals, Barnard and Zureck defeated the No. 1 seeded team of Taylor Brewster and Caitlyn Baines from the host school of West Florida.

"I'm very pleased with the whole team," said head coach Quinton Yray. "We played extremely well in doubles beating McNeese in the finals quite handily and I was very impressed with the effort everyone put out."

Tech's other doubles team of Sophie Heldoorn and Melanie Urvoy fell to Kayla Hackett and Kodi Boo from Motevallo before losing to Marina Ljosevska and Tatiana Dnezhkina from Nicholls State.

In singles play, after drawing a bye in the fist round, Barnard lost in the second round to eventual runner-up Serchenko 6-0, 6-0. Sophomore Alena Erofeyeva lost to Pirdopska and then to Tatiana Dnezhkina from Nicholls State.

The Lady Techsters next travel to Hattiesburg to participate in the Halloween Classic on Friday.

"I'm sure we will do well in Hattiesburg, MS and I'm looking forward to the tournament," Yray said.
