Tech Finishes Third At Strike For Breast Cancer

Oct. 26, 2010

BOSSIER CITY, La. - The Louisiana Tech bowling team finished in third place at the NCAA Strike Out for Breast Cancer Tournament at the Holiday Lanes this past weekend.

Entering the match as the 20th-ranked team in the land, Tech compiled a 4-4 record on the weekend finishing behind Prairie View A&M and Southern University.

"We played like I had expected with such a young team," said seventh-year head coach Shawn Jackson. "We need to be able to correct a couple of the mistakes that we made. Ultimately, if we can learn to cover our mistakes, we can perform much better."

Tech opened the tournament Saturday afternoon splitting four total pinfall matches with wins coming against Southern University and Grambling State while dropping matches to Prairie View A&M and Texas Southern.

Moving to the Baker System on Sunday, Tech opened with a thrilling seven game match against Southern University. Down three games to two, the Lady Techsters stormed back to take game six, 231-167 and clinched the seventh game, 151-135.

Coming off of an emotional win, Tech was unable to recover in their next match as Prairie View A&M upended the Techsters, 4-2.

With two matches remaining in the tournament, Tech split the pair knocking off Grambling State in five before falling to Southern University in four games in what ultimately determined the tournament runner-up.

Individually, Amy Day picked up MVP honors for Louisiana Tech as she averaged 173 pins in individual play while picking up a tournament-high 181 pins against Prairie View A&M.

"I was very pleased with her performance," said Jackson. "She has worked hard in practice and it shows. Last season she was our fifth bowler and with her performance this weekend I am very confident in what that means for our team this season."

Tech returns to action this weekend as the team travels to Springfield, Missouri to take part in the Greater Ozark Invite.
