Techsters Cruise To Lady Tiger Classic Championship

Nov. 15, 2010

HOUSTON, Texas - Behind Houston Granger's 210 weekend average, the Louisiana Tech bowling team cruised to a 12-1 record en route to claiming the Lady Tiger Classic championship this past weekend. The win marks the first time that the Lady Techsters have claimed a tournament title since October of 2009 when Tech claimed the Bossier City Classic.

"I am very happy with the way that the team played this weekend," said Louisiana Tech head coach Shawn Jackson. "Houston Granger had the best weekend of any athlete in the six-year history of our program. She basically carried us on her five-foot-three shoulders. She had several games in which she was just bowling lights out."

During baker competition on Friday, Tech cruised to a 5-0 record with wins over Grambling State, Prairie View A&M and Texas Southern. In each match Tech averaged 890 pins - 130 more than their nearest competition.

Saturday's singles matches featured much of the same as the Lady Techsters again posted a perfect 5-0 mark. Houston Granger bowled a tournament-high 233 as Tech clinched the title that afternoon.

During play on Sunday the Techsters finished with a 2-1 mark after falling to the host school, Texas Southern.

With her performance over the weekend Granger picked up Lady Tiger Classic MVP honors as well as team MVP honors.

"Overall it was a great tournament for us. We've talked all year about the progress of the team has made and trying to develop as a team because we are still young," said Jackson. "We made strides with the last tournament and this past weekend gave us the chance to see how the student-athletes have grown. As we start the second part of the season after the break we look to hit the lanes running."

After a brief hiatus for the quarter break, Louisiana Tech returns to action Dec. 3-5 as the Techsters travel to the Capital City Classic in Jackson, Mississippi.
