WARRENSBURG, Mo. - The Louisiana Tech bowling team finished tied for seventh place at the UCM Greater Ozark Invite this past weekend.
In addition to 20th-ranked Louisiana Tech, four ranked teams including fifth-ranked Central Missouri highlighted the field.
"During day one we didn't bowl up to our capability. I don't think the girls were intimidated by the field I just think they were a little bit nervous," said Louisiana Tech head coach Shawn Jackson. "On day two they bowled like the team that I thought they were and the team that I know we can be. Day three was a continuation of day two as we shot up the standings from last to seventh. I was very happy with the way that they played both as a team and as individuals."
The Lady Techsters boasted a 5-8 mark on the weekend with wins over 17th-ranked Minnesota State, Southern University, Elmhurst, Stephen F. Austin and Prairie View A&M. All of Tech's wins came over teams that received votes in the 2010-11 NTCA Preseason Coaches' Poll.
Individually Tech was led by Jessica McCusker who averaged a score of 191.25 including a career-high 208 against sixth-ranked Arkansas State. Kayla Ghersini and Houston Granger averaged a score of 188.4 and 180 respectively with Ghersini picking up a 212 against Southern University - the highest individual score for a Lady Techster all season.
"It was an exciting tournament and I think the girls have confidence now in seeing what they can be when they bowl up to their capabilities," said Jackson.
Louisiana Tech (9-12) returns to action Nov. 12-14 as the Lady Techsters travel to Houston, Texas to take part in the Lady Tiger Classic.
