RUSTON, La. - Coming off of an impressive sweep at the Lady Tiger Classic last month, the 18th-ranked Louisiana Tech bowling team returns to action this weekend as the Techsters travel to Brandon, MS for the Capital City Collegiate Classic hosted by Jackson State Dec. 3-5 at the Fannin Lanes.
"We were excited after the Tiger Classic and with the long break we are ready to get back into action," said seventh-year head coach Shawn Jackson.
The field at this weekend's tournament will pit the Techsters up against four of the top teams in the land headlined by third-ranked and perennial power Nebraska and sixth-ranked Arkansas State.
"It is an extremely competitive field," Jackson said. "We are excited about this weekend and looking forward to the level of competition."
Last time out the Techsters posted a perfect 11-0 mark as junior Houston Granger led the team with 210 pinfall average, picking up tournament MVP honors in the process. In addition to Granger's performance, Amy Day and Kayla Ghersini notched season-highs as they dropped 201 and 213 pins respectively in singles competition.
"Houston was outstanding at our last tournament and I will be shocked if the other student-athletes do not elevate their level of play this weekend as I expect everyone to perform well," said Jackson.
Following this weekend's tournament, the Techsters will take a one month hiatus before returning to action Jan. 14-16 as they travel to the Mid Winter Classic.
