SHREVEPORT - Junior Meghan Krieg struck out nine to lead Louisiana Tech to a 4-1 win over Centenary Wednesday night at the Ladies Softball Complex.
Krieg (11-9) allowed only one earned run on five hits and six walks in the complete-game win as the Lady Techsters (15-10) completed the season sweep of the Ladies (8-19).
Senior Kylie Bassett gave Krieg and Tech a 1-0 lead in the top of the third inning, launching her team-leading seventh home run of the season deep over the left field wall off Centenary starter Sarah Dornelas.
Tech threatened to blow open the game in the top of the fifth inning as Amanda Parsonage singled off Ladies reliever Courtney Avery and then advanced to second on a walk drawn by Sarah Offutt. Kendra Harmon sacrificed the duo over to second and third before Bassett grounded to Centenary shortstop Callie Herrington who threw Parsonage out at home.
After Amberly Waits drew a walk to load the bases with two outs, Jessica Kirby flew out deep to centerfield to end the threat and keep the score 1-0.
Tech gave Krieg some insurance in the top of the sixth inning as Meghan Knowles walked and advanced to second on a one-out single by Claire Gibson. Parsonage then reached on an infield error to load the bases before Offutt singled sharply to left field, plating pinch runner Kallan Thompson and making the score 2-0.
Harmon then hit a bloop single over the shortstops head to score Gibson and Bassett drove the final run of the frame home with a fielder's choice as Tech led 4-0.
Centenary mounted its biggest threat of the night in the bottom of the sixth as back-to-back singles and a walk loaded the bases with no outs. Herrington then singled to left field off Krieg to make the score 4-1 as the bases remained loaded with no outs.
However, Krieg buckled down retiring three straight batters to end the Ladies threat.
Eight different Tech hitters recorded one hit each in the win while Bassett drove home two runs and Offutt and Harmon each registered one RBI.
Tech returns to action Friday at 5 p.m. CT in a single game at San Jose State followed by a Saturday doubleheader at 2 p.m.
