AUBURN - Molly Goza and Kylie Bassett each hit grand slam home runs to lift Louisiana Tech to an 11-3 win over Tennessee State Sunday morning in its final game of the War Eagle Classic hosted by Auburn.

The win was Tech's third in four games at the tournament with the lone setback being a 1-0 loss to Auburn Friday.

Goza, a transfer from Ole Miss, gave the Lady Techsters (10-6) an early 4-0 lead with a two-out grand slam home run in the bottom of the first inning. It was Goza's first career home run at LA Tech and the second of her college career.

Goza's dinger scored Kendra Harmon who doubled and Bassett and Jessica Kirby who each walked to load the bases. The home run chased Tennessee State starter Hannah Schnebly after only two-thirds of an inning in the circle.

After Tennessee State scratched for a run off Tech starter Meghan Krieg in the top of the second, the Lady Techsters upped the lead to 5-1 as Bassett drove home Amanda Parsonage with a double to right centerfield.

Krieg (7-5) got into some trouble in the top of the fourth inning as an error, single and walk loaded the bases for Tennessee State leadoff hitter Bridget Metzger who doubled home two unearned runs to make the score 5-3.

However, the Techsters answered in their next at bat scoring five runs on only two hits. Parsonage walked and Sarah Offutt followed with a bunt single. After Harmon walked to load the bases, Bassett drilled her fourth home run of the season over the centerfield fence to give LA Tech a 9-3 lead. Tech loaded the bases again as Heather Doiron drove home the fifth run of the inning with a groundout to the shortstop.

Parsonage finished the scoring for Tech in the bottom of the sixth inning with an RBI single up the middle, scoring pinch runner Kallan Thompson and ending the game due to the eight-run rule.

Krieg picked up the win, allowing three runs - only one earned - on five hits and five walks while striking out six in 6.0 innings of work.

Bassett led Tech with two hits, two runs and five RBI while Goza added one hit, one run and four RBI.

The Lady Techsters return to action Saturday when they travel to Fayetteville, Arkansas to compete in a tournament. LA Tech will play Southern Illinois-Edwardsville and Arkansas on Saturday and Southeast Missouri State on Sunday.
