RUSTON--The Louisiana Tech baseball team (8-3) will face-off against Baylor (7-6) for the second time in less than a week Tuesday at Baylor Ballpark at Ferrell Field with first pitch scheduled for 4 p.m. CT.
Tech is coming off a 2-1 series win over UT- Pan American this past weekend. After winning the first two games of the series in the final innings, the Bulldogs dropped the series finale to the Broncs. The Bears are coming off a 3-1 series win over Oral Roberts. After the weekend, Baylor infielder Raynor Campbell was named one of four "Louisville Slugger" National Players of the Week, as announced by Collegiate Baseball Newspaper on Monday.
The senior from Katy, Texas, hit .500 (12-for-24) with four home runs, three doubles and 17 RBI in Baylor's six games during the week of March 1-7.
This will be the seventh meeting on the baseball diamond between the two teams. The Bulldogs are 3-3 all-time vs. Baylor. The last time Tech met-up with the Bears was less than a week ago in Waco where Tech won 14-6 over the Bears.
Tech will send junior left-hander Mike LeBreton (1-0, 7.56) to the hill Tuesday. This will be LeBreton's third career start as a Bulldog. The New Orleans native had a successful weekend pitching 3.1 innings scoreless innings in relief in two appearances while picking up one win. LeBreton will face Baylor right-hander Trent Blank (2-1, 3.95).
Tech has been led at the plate by a number of different players this year. Sophomore Alex Williams leads the team in homeruns with three while shortstop Ashton Hughes leads all Bulldogs with 16 RBI. Sophomore third baseman Mark Threlkeld is hit safely in every game this year for Tech (11 straight) while designated hitter Will Alvis has hit safely in every game he has played in his Tech career (9 straight).
