Bradshaw Pitches Bulldogs to Win

RUSTON--Senior Jamey Bradshaw struck out seven batters in seven innings pitched to help lead Louisiana Tech to a 10-3 win over Texas Wesleyan Friday night at J.C. Love Field at Pat Patterson Park.
Bradshaw (2-0) upped his quality start streak to seven games in as many chances as he allowed just three runs while only walking one batter to earn his second win of the season. The walk was the only free base the Bulldogs (13-11) allowed all night. Caleb Dudley threw two scoreless innings in relief for Tech.
"Any time you only walk one batter and don't make any errors you're going to have a chance to win," Tech head coach Wade Simoneaux said. "I thought Jamey (Bradshaw) and Caleb (Dudley) did an outstanding job on the mound and we backed them up with tremendous defense."
The Bulldogs gave Bradshaw plenty of run support scoring 10 runs, three of which came in the fourth. Holding a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the fourth, Tech put some space between them and the Rams (19-12; 7-0) with a three-run inning. Devon Dageford began the inning with a single through the left side and then moved to second on a wild pitch. Dageford advanced to third on a failed pick-off attempt by the Rams that ended up in centerfield before Joey Ford singled Dageford in for one of his three RBI of the game.
Center fielder Clint Stubbs followed Ford with a single of his own to left field before Clint Ewing drove in Ford with a single also to left. Stubbs advanced to third on Ewing's base hit and was knocked in by an Ashton Hughes sac fly to center to give Tech a 5-1 lead.
The Bulldogs seemed to put the game out of reach with three more runs in the eighth. Tech put the three runs on the board despite not recording a hit in the inning. The Rams' Drew Cavender came in to pitch for Lance Parker in the inning and two walks and a hit batsman later he was in a bases loaded jam. Both Ewing and Kyle Roliard scored on wild pitches in the inning while Mark Threlkeld scored on a ground out to second base by Alex Williams to increase the Tech lead to 10-3 which would be the final.
Ford led all Bulldogs at the plate with a 3-for-4 night with three RBI. Ewing also had a good night at the plate going 2-for-3 and one RBI. Designated hitter Will Alvis upped his homerun total to four with a solo shot over the leftfield fence in the second inning.
"Offensively I thought we did a good job of executing our hit and runs tonight and we laid down a few good bunts and that's the difference," Simoneaux said. "Both teams had 11 hits and the reason we scored more was because we executed those things."
"I like our lineup right now," Simoneaux said. "Tomorrow I'm going to get some different guys in there that didn't play today to try and get them ready for when we start conference play because we're going to need them. It's hard to win with just nine position players and six pitchers so we're going to throw some different guys tomorrow and give a few different guys some playing time in the field."
Louisiana Tech and Texas Wesleyan will face-off again tomorrow with a double-header at J.C. Love Field at Pat Patterson Park beginning at 1 p.m. CT.
