Bale, Harvey Making Noise on the Links

Aug. 2, 2010

RUSTON - Louisiana Tech golfer Jonathan Bale had an impressive spring for the Bulldogs and head coach Jeff Parks.

As a result of that success as well as a second place finish at a recent event back home in the UK, Bale was selected to play for his country in the Home International Aug. 10-13 in Wales.

The Home International consists of the 10 best players from England, Wales, Scotland and Ireland who will all represent their countries while playing against each other in a series at an exclusive venue over the four-day event.

Fifteen of the 40 competitors will be selected to play in the Walker Cup which features amateurs from the United States against amateurs from Great Britain and Ireland.

The native of Porthcawl, Wales joins some impressive company as the likes of Rory McIlroy, Ian Poulter and Lee Westwood have all competed in this event during their days as amateurs.

Former Bulldog Matthew Harvey also got some good news recently as he qualified to compete in the United States Am at Chambers Bay in Washington Aug. 23-29.

Harvey qualified for the prestigious event by shooting a two-round total of six-under-par 136 at Diamond Oaks Golf Club July 26 to win the US Amateur qualifying event by one stroke over Clarke Kincaid.
