Box Score

BATON ROUGE, La. - Purdue plated six runs over the final three innings to down Louisiana Tech 7-3 Saturday morning in the second day of the Tiger Classic hosted by LSU.

Through the first four innings, Tech freshman Erin Kipp and Purdue senior Suzie Rzegocki were locked in a pitcher's duel as the Boilermakers held a 1-0 advantage on a run plated in the first inning.

However, Purdue added a single run in the fifth after back-to-back singles and a fielding error by Lady Techster centerfielder Christina Gamboa allowed the run to score. However, with runners on first and second and nobody out, Kipp pitched out of a jam to keep the score at 2-0.

The Boilermakers then tact on three more in the sixth to take a 5-0 advantage as Purdue plated the trifecta of runs thanks to two hits, two walks, a wild pitch and an illegal pitch.

Tech (1-2) rallied with three runs of its own in the bottom of the sixth inning. Kipp led the frame off with a double to centerfield - her first collegiate hit - and then advanced to third on a throwing error by the Boilermakers infield on a ground ball by Gamboa.

With runners on first and third, Kipp scored the first run for Tech on a wild pitch before pinch runner Charday Wilson plated the second on an RBI single by Janna Frandrup to right field.

Meghan Knowles then doubled to right centerfield, scoring pinch runner Michelle Jones with the third and final run of the inning as Tech cut the Boilermaker lead to 5-3.

However, Purdue answered in the top of the seventh, scoring two runs off of Frandrup, who came on in relief of Kipp.

Rzegocki retired Tech in order in the bottom of the seventh to seal the complete-game performance.

Kipp (1-1) picked up the loss, allowing five earned runs on seven hits and four walks while striking out five Boilermakers. Frandrup allowed two earned runs on three hits in her one inning of action.

Rzegocki (1-0) earned the victory, allowing the three runs - two earned - on five hits and no walks while striking out four.

Offensively, Tech recorded five hits as Frandrup, Knowles, Kipp, Molly Goza and Heather Doiron each registered one.

The Lady Techsters return to action this afternoon at 5:30 p.m. to face Bowling Green, a team that LA Tech defeated 4-1 on Friday.
