RUSTON - Baylor used a couple of big innings to break open close games as the Lady Bears swept a softball doubleheader from Louisiana Tech 11-0 and 9-0 Tuesday before 525 fans at the Lady Techster Softball Complex.
In game one of the day, Baylor (11-0) led 2-0 through three innings before scoring four runs with two-outs in the top of the fourth inning against Tech starter Meghan Krieg to blow open the game. The Lady Bears then plated five more runs on three home runs in the top of the fifth off Tech reliever Janna Frandrup to put the finishing touches on the 11-0 win.
Krieg (1-4) took the loss, allowing six runs -five earned - on five hits and four walks while striking out four batters in 4.0 innings of action. Frandrup allowed five runs - three earned - on four hits with one strikeout.
Offensively, Tech (3-8) managed only four base runners in the game as freshman Cassie Krieg recorded the only hit with an infield single in the second inning off Baylor ace Whitney Canion (5-0). Frandrup drew two walks and Allie Geisler a third for the only Tech baserunners of the game.
Canion kept her perfect mark intact, recording seven strikeouts while allowing the one hit and three walks in 4.0 innings of action.
Dani Leai, Shelbi Redfearn and Canion led Baylor's nine-hit attack with two hits each while Leai and Sydney Wilson each registered three RBI in the win.
In the second game of the day, Tech freshman Erin Kipp battled through the first five innings allowing only four hits and three runs - two earned - before the Bears unloaded in the top of the sixth, plating six runs on six hits.
Kipp (1-2) took the loss, allowing nine runs - seven earned - on 10 hits and three walks.
Offensively, Tech was held in check again, recording only three base runners against the Lady Bears.
Baylor starter Courtney Repka (4-0) had a no-hitter heading into the bottom of the sixth inning before Cassie Krieg broke it up with an infield single into the hole at shortstop. After Krieg was doubled off first when Repko snared a line drive off the bat of Kipp, Christina Gamboa recorded the second hit of the game with a line drive to left centerfield.
However, Repko got Charday Wilson to ground to shortstop for the final out of the game.
Tech returns to action this weekend when it travels to Oxford to compete in the Ole Miss Red and Blue Classic. The Lady Techsters open play Friday when they face South Alabama at 11 a.m. and Ole Miss at 5 p.m.
