COLLEGE STATION - Twenty-second ranked Texas A&M scored nine runs in the first and cruised to an 11-0 victory over Louisiana Tech Sunday afternoon in the final game of the Aggies Invitational.
The Aggies (20-6) scored nine runs on eight hits and two walks off LA Tech starter Michelle Jones, who gave way to Erin Kipp following a grand slam by Natalie Villareal that capped the scoring in the opening frame.
Texas A&M added a pair of runs in the fourth inning on three hits and one error as the Aggies finished the tournament a perfect 5-0 while slugging 16 home runs on the weekend. The closest game Texas A&M had all weekend came Friday in a 3-1 win over Louisiana Tech in a game that saw the Lady Techster carry the lead into the fifth inning.
In Sunday's contest, Tech managed only three hits as Janna Frandrup recorded a two-out single in the top of the first inning before Aggie starter Lindsey Sisk closed the door on the inning.
The Lady Techsters had their best scoring opportunity of the day in the third inning when Molly Goza and Kendra Harmon recorded singles to put runners on first and second with one out. However, Sisk struck Charday Wilson out looking and then induced a ground ball out by Frandrup.
Kipp pitched admirably in relief, allowing two runs - one earned - on four hits and three walks in the final 3.1 innings of action.
Tech returns to action Wednesday when it travels to Nacogdoches to face Northwestern State at 6 p.m. The Lady Techsters will travel to Hammond this weekend to face Southeastern Louisiana in a 2 p.m. doubleheader.
