BOISE, Idaho - Louisiana Tech dropped a pair of Western Athletic Conference games Saturday falling 11-3 and 8-0 to Boise State the Mountain Cove Softball Field.
In the first game of the doubleheader, Boise State pounded out 10 hits off Tech pitchers Erin Kipp and Michelle Jones while also capitalizing on four Louisiana Tech errors as the Broncos scored in all five innings in the victory.
The Lady Techsters (11-28, 2-7 WAC) scored a single run in the second, third and fourth innings off of Broncos starter Allie Crump but it wasn't enough against the Boise State offensive onslaught.
Trailing 1-0 heading into the top of the second inning, Heather Doiron reached on an error, advanced to second on an illegal pitch, to third on a ground out by Meghan Knowles and then scored on another illegal pitch to tie the game at 1-1.
After Boise State scored four runs on three hits and two LA Tech errors in the bottom of the second inning, Kendra Harmon led the top of the third off with a single and then stole second base. Christina Gamboa then followed with a walk as both runners moved up on a passed ball.
Harmon then scored on an error by the Boise State infield on a Janna Frandrup ground ball, cutting the score to 5-2. With runners on first and third and one out, Tech attempted a double steal but Gamboa was thrown out at home. Doiron then struck out to end the threat.
Tech added its third run of the game in the top of the fourth inning on Molly Goza's second home run of the season.
Kipp (1-7) took the loss, allowing eight runs - only five earned - on six hits and three walks. Michelle Jones came on in relief, allowing three runs - only one earned - on four hits.
Harmon, Frandrup and Goza recorded the only three hits of the game for Tech.
In the second game of the day, Boise State broke open a tight game by plating seven runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to win 8-0.
The Broncos led 1-0 on the strength of a solo home run by Crump off of Tech starter Meghan Krieg in the bottom of the fourth. However, the Broncos exploded for seven runs on only three hits in the bottom of the fifth as they capitalized on three walks, two errors and a grand slam home run by Devon Bridges.
Krieg (7-16) took the loss, allowing eight runs - six earned - on only three hits and six walks while striking out two in 4.1 innings of action.
Tech's only real scoring threat came in the top of the fourth inning when it mounted a two-out rally with three straight singles by Frandrup, Geisler and Doiron before Meghan Knowles grounded out to end the threat.
The Lady Techsters return home Wednesday to host Northwestern State at 6 p.m.
