CONWAY, Arkansas - Louisiana Tech will play its first midweek game of the year Tuesday when the Lady Techster softball team travels to Conway to face Central Arkansas in a single game at 5 p.m.
The contest can be heard live on an internet-only broadcast starting at 4:50 p.m. as fans can access the free broadcast by logging onto www.latechsports.com and clicking on the LISTEN LIVE link on the pregame story.
Tech (3-5) has been solid through its first two weekend tournaments as the Lady Techsters have played four games against Top 25 teams and two more against unranked Big 10 foes Penn State and Northwestern.
The Lady Techsters have been led offensively by Janna Frandrup (.438, 8 RBI), Amanda Krueger (.381, 4 doubles), Katelynn Hill (.333, 3 HR) and Kendra Harmon (.280) thus far this season. Krueger leads Tech with nine runs scored, which is more than double that of the next closest teammate.
In the circle, Michelle Jones (3-1, 1.80 ERA) has been impressive and is coming off her first career shutout with a 5-0 complete-game victory over UTEP Sunday. In that contest she held the Miners to only three hits and two walks.
If Jones doesn't get the start against the Sugar Bears (5-5), either junior Mel Goff (0-1, 5.25 ERA) or sophomore Erin Kipp (0-2, 10.92 ERA) could get the nod.
Central Arkansas enters the game with a .341 team batting average as the Southland Conference program is averaging 6.8 runs per game. UCA boasts four players batting over .400 led by Lissa Avitia (.483, 10 runs), Kasey Britt (.457, 3 HR, 11 RBI), Melanie Bryant (.421, 8 runs) and Stephanie Lasley (.417, 10 RBI).
Kelsie Armstrong (1-4, 3.00 ERA) and Carni Newsome (4-0, 4.45 ERA) are the Bears top two pitchers.
