NATCHITOCHES, La. - Kylie Roos pitched a one-hitter to lead Northwestern State to a 3-0 win over Louisiana Tech Tuesday evening at Lady Demon Diamond.
The one-hit performance by Roos marked the third straight one-hitter thrown by the Northwestern State staff after tossing a pair of them in a weekend series sweep of Stephen F. Austin.
Tech sophomore Erin Kipp was impressive in the circle as well, allowing only four hits while registering four three-up-and-three-down innings. However, Northwestern State got to Kipp early in the game, registering three of its hits in the three-run second inning.
Samantha Roberts led the bottom of the second off with a double to left centerfield and Brianna Rodriguez followed with a two-run home run over the left field wall, giving NSU a 2-0 lead. One out later, Cassandra Barefield hit a solo home run to left field as the Demons led 3-0.
Roos coasted for NSU, surrendering only a two-out single to Meghan Knowles in the top of the second inning. It was the only base runner of the night for LA Tech.
Following the three-run second inning, Kipp settled down and retired 12 straight batters and 14 of the final 15 in the game.
Kipp (5-5) took the loss, allowing three runs on four hits and no walks in 6.0 innings of action.
Tech returns to action this weekend when the Lady Techsters travel to face 14th ranked Hawaii in a three-game Western Athletic Conference series on the island.
