SUMTER, S.C. -- After both earning All-Conference honors this past season, Louisiana Tech freshmen netters Alexandra Starkova and Joanna Nalborska are participating in the ITF Palmetto Pro Open in Sumter, S.C.
The No. 1 and No. 2 singles players for LA Tech are in the qualifying draw of the even that hosts players from over 20 countries.
Matches started early this morning with both Lady Techsters advancing to the second round.
Starkova will face Kayla Price (USA) after receiving a first round bye. Nalborska cruised past Lea Kotto (USA) 6-0, 6-2 to set up a match with Whitney McCray (USA).
For a lot of players this is the first tournament of the summer season in which they will be looking to participate in other ITA collegiate circuit events, USTA open tournaments and ITF Pro circuit events.
