RUSTON, La. - A week after opening the fall season with a ninth-place finish, Louisiana Tech has a chance to record an early improvement in scores as the Bulldogs begin play at the Memphis Intercollegiate Monday.
The Memphis Intercollegiate will include 54-hole stroke play over two days with 36 holes being played Monday and 18 holes wrapping up the tournament Tuesday. Monday's action will begin with a shotgun start around 8:15 a.m.
Louisiana Tech will be facing several regional teams including Arkansas State, Belmont, Cincinnati, Lipscomb, Louisiana-Lafayette, Memphis, Middle Tennessee, Mississippi State, Southern Miss, Toledo and Western Kentucky in the tournament.
LA Tech recently edged out Mississippi State in last week's Sam Hall Intercollegiate in Hattiesburg, Miss. Chuck Spears led the Bulldogs individually in that tournament, recording a top-20 finish and shooting 1-over-par (214) for the three-round tournament.
The Memphis Intercollegiate first began in the fall of 1982 with Missouri shooting 897 to claim the team title and was a fall tournament through the 2010 fall season. The last three years the tournament has been held in the spring with 2014 returning the event to the fall schedule.
Memphis won the last Memphis Intercollegiate, held in Spring 2014, with an 874 team score to claim its own tournament title.
