RUSTON - Pauline Tufi recorded a complete-game performance in the circle and added a pair of RBI to lead Louisiana Tech to a 6-2 win over Southeastern Louisiana Tuesday evening at the Lady Techster Softball Complex.
Tufi (4-0), making only her fourth start of the season, allowed only two runs on three hits and two walks while striking out four while picking up her fourth win of the season. The sophomore retired Southeastern Louisiana in order in the top of the first inning and then watched as her teammates staked her to a four-run lead.
In the bottom of the first inning, junior Lindsey Neyland doubled to left center and then scored on Tori Charters RBI single up the middle, giving the Lady Techsters a 1-0 lead. Anna Cross then walked and Charters advanced to third on a fly out by Tufi to deep left field for the first out of the inning.
After Cross stole second base - her 10th of the season - Charters raced home on a passed ball by Lady Lions catcher Spencer Adkinson for the second run of the frame. Following a ground out, Bianca Duran came through with two outs on an RBI single up the middle, scoring Cross with the third run. Janine Godwin tripled to left center, scoring Duran from first as Tech led 4-0 after one inning.
Tufi had little trouble in the circle through the first three innings, allowing only one base runner which was then erased on an inning ending double play.
However, in the top of the fourth inning, Katie Lacour singled and one out later, Sydney Booker homered to left field as the two-run shot cut the Tech lead to 4-2.
LA Tech responded in the bottom of the fourth. Katie Smith and Tori Charters both singled and Cross walked with two outs to load the bases for Tufi. The sophomore slugger ended an 0-for-15 streak at the plate with a two-run single to centerfield, scoring Smith and Charters and giving Tech a 6-2 lead.
The Lions threatened one final time in the sixth inning but Tufi induced a fly ball out to end the threat.
With the win, Tech surpassed its win total from last season.
The Lady Techsters will host Charlotte this weekend in a three-game Conference USA series with a doubleheader Saturday at 2 p.m. and single game Sunday at 1 p.m.
