HUMBLE, Texas - Louisiana Tech posted a top-four team score Saturday as the Bulldogs remained in sixth place after the second round of the All-American Intercollegiate at the Golf Club of Houston.
Chuck Spears led the team by carding a 1-under-par score Saturday as Louisiana Tech completed the second of three rounds only one stroke behind No. 32 SMU and five strokes behind No. 34 Baylor. The Bulldogs enter Sunday's final round two strokes ahead of No. 47 Charleston Southern and Troy.
No. 38 Houston remained in the team lead at 13-under-par after two rounds while No. 30 Arkansas moved up seven spots to second place with a two-round team score of even-par while No. 27 South Carolina is third at one-over-par.
Victor Lange dropped to ninth place on the individual leaderboard as he carded a 2-over-par 74 Saturday. The senior from South Africa enters Sunday's round at 1-under-par overall and only five strokes behind Houston's Papito Gonzalez, who leads the tournament at 6-under-par.
The only Bulldog to have a par-or-better score at the turn (he was even par), Lange hit a hiccup down the stretch as he was 3-over-par over the final five holes to finish at 2-over.
Spears' 1-under-par 71 dropped his overall tournament score to 5-over-par over the first two rounds and he is tied for 35th. After a slow start, Spears caught fire late as he went 4-under-par over the final seven holes including carding an eagle on the par-5 Hole 13.
Jake Pritchard, currently tied for 24th, is two strokes ahead of Spears after carding a 1-over-par 73 Saturday to bring his tournament score to a competitive 3-over-par. Pritchard joined Spears in carding 2-under-par after the turn Saturday.
Ben Robinson dropped four strokes off his first round score as he carded a 1-over-par 73 Saturday and enters Sunday's final round at 6-over-par overall, tied for 42nd.
Charles Neel White posted the best improvement between the first and second rounds, carding a 3-over-par 75 Saturday for a nine-stroke improvement.
Louisiana Tech tees off the final round of the All-American Intercollegiate Sunday at 8:30 a.m. The Bulldogs will begin the day with a shotgun start on holes four through six and will be paired with 34th-ranked Baylor and 32nd-ranked SMU.
