Techsters Set for Home Opener versus Demons

Feb. 4, 2016

RUSTON ââ'¬" After spending the first three matches of the spring season on the road, Louisiana Tech will host in-state foe Northwestern State in its home opener on Friday at 1 p.m. at the LA Tech Tennis Complex.

LA Tech (2-1) and NSU (0-0) are no strangers to one another. The two teams battle each other almost every spring and fall with being less than two hours apart.

"We have seen Northwestern State quite a bit so both teams are very familiar with one another," head coach Chad Camper said. Past performances, especially like from the fall, mean little when it comes to a dual match.

"Our players are very excited for this match with it being our first at home. We are facing a quality team that won the Southland Conference last season and competed in the NCAA Tournament."

This will be the first dual match of the spring for the Lady Demons, but the Lady Techsters have already had three including the recent sweep of Prairie View A&M and Sam Houston State.

Alexandra Starkova led the way in the two victories, claiming two straight set wins at No. 1 and partnering with Zoe Chen in doubles to win two. The duo is 3-0 so far this season, helping the team win all three doubles points thus far.

"We are all excited we have found ways to earn the doubles point," Camper said. "In this match, the doubles point will be crucial for momentum going into singles. We need to be ready from the beginning."

The Techsters won have the last three dual meetings in the series.
