March 3, 2016 Recap | Final Stats | Notes
Opening Statement:
"That was a heck of a college basketball game. I think it shows how good our league is. I know Marshall is really, really good. I just thought that if you are watching at home or in the arena, you saw a great show. Those were two teams that played really hard. I thought there was a lot of skill out there. I know I told our team late in the second half that whoever has the ball last is going to win this game. That proved to be true. I am proud of our guys. There were many times that we could have folded, but they just stuck together and found a way. I think coach D'Antoni does a tremendous job. His team has gotten better and better all season long. We knew were going to have a tough cover. Boy was it tough. I am just really proud of our guys."
On the last play:
"We tried to get the ball to Alex Hamilton and I said if he is doubled, take those guys away, throw it to Jy'lan [Washington] and then Derric [Jean] catch it and see how far you can go and fire. Or if anybody comes at you, hit one of the guys in the corner. Derric made a great shot. He executed the play exactly right. It is amazing. We shoot a ton of halfcourt shots. We don't make very many, but thankfully we made this one tonight."
"It looked good. I could see the distance was right. One of our players and one of our coaches both said at different times, `That's in.' And it was. It was a tremendous shot, a great play, a great game."
On the pace of the game:
"We knew it was going to be a track meet. We play pretty quick too. They play really fast. It is something that is very difficult to simulate in practice. We tried to be strategic with our timeouts. Alex Hamilton played 38 minutes. Dayon Griffin played 39. Thankfully there were enough foul shots in the game where they could catch a rest. We have had guys play big minutes all year. They were able to have enough fuel in the tank to get this one."
On Alex Hamilton:
"The guy is going to go down in history as one of the best ever at a program with a lot of history. He is so competitive and his will to win is one of the highest I have been around. He is playing at a very, very high level right now. I hope we can keep playing well and keep playing as long as possible because I love watching him play."
