SAN ANTONIO - After inclement weather forced Louisiana Tech and UTSA to suspend play Friday night, the Bulldogs returned to the diamond and took care of business Saturday by closing out a 4-2 series-opening win before taking the series with a 14-9 victory over the Roadrunners in the second game of the day at Roadrunner Field.

LA Tech improved to 27-13 overall and 12-8 in Conference USA play with the two victories over the Roadrunners. The Bulldogs have now won five straight and nine of their last 10 games with a chance to complete the series sweep over UTSA (14-27, 5-15 C-USA) in the 1 p.m. series finale Sunday in San Antonio.

"I felt like our guys came out and really had an edge about them today and competed from the first pitch on," head coach Greg Goff said. "I thought we had some good at bats off two quality starters and got them into the bullpen, which was our plan. Defensively, I think we made some fantastic plays. Chandler Hall was outstanding at short. Our outfielders made some great plays. If we don't make some of those big plays today, it could have been a whole different story. I think our defense made a big difference today by turning some big double plays and getting out of some big jams."

Right-hander Casey Sutton will get the start for LA Tech in the finale as he enters the game with a 5-0 record and league-leading 1.11 ERA on the season.

GAME 1: LA TECH 4, UTSA 2

LA Tech and UTSA didn't need five more innings to decide the series opener that was suspended in the fourth inning Friday because both teams were held scoreless in the conclusion of the game Saturday as the Bulldogs held on for a 4-2 victory over the Roadrunners.

Nate Harris pitched five shutout innings after the game picked back up in the top of the fourth with LA Tech leading, 4-2, to earn the win on the mound. Harris (3-2) allowed just three hits, walked one and struck out four from the fourth inning to the eighth before Adam Atkins came on in the ninth to close things out and pick up his seventh save of the season.

On Friday, LA Tech scored a run in the third on an RBI double by Sean Ullrich, but UTSA regained the lead with two runs of its own in the bottom half of the inning to take a 2-1 lead. But the Bulldogs sent eight batters to the plate the very next inning and scored three runs on a two-run single by Marshall Boggs and a UTSA error to put LA Tech ahead once again, 4-2, before play was suspended.

UTSA sent Karan Patel to the mound once play resumed Saturday as the right-hander held LA Tech hitless in 5.1 innings while walking four and striking out three. Starter Aaron Burns (3-6) was charged with the loss for the Roadrunners after allowing four runs -- three earned -- on six hits in 3.2 innings.

LA Tech was out-hit, 7-6, by UTSA in the opener with Ullrich leading the way with a 2-for-4 effort in the first game. Ullrich had a double, RBI and walked, while Boggs drove in the other two RBI's in a 1-for-4 day at the plate. Chase Lunceford was 1-for-2 with a run and a walk, while Cody Daigle and Brent Diaz each had a base hit in the opening game of the series.

GAME 2: LA TECH 14, UTSA 9

Louisiana Tech scored multiple runs in five different innings and jumped way out in front of UTSA early in second game of the day, which led to a 14-9 series-clinching victory over the Roadrunners.

Both LA Tech and UTSA combined for 23 runs on 25 hits while neither team made an error, but walks told the story as the Roadrunners issued 12 walks while the Bulldog pitchers had eight walks on the night. The two teams sent a total of 11 pitchers to the mound in Saturday's night cap.

LA Tech plated two runs in the first and never looked back as the Bulldogs added two in the fourth and fifth, three in the sixth and finally five runs in the top of the seventh to secure a 14-2 lead over UTSA through seven innings. The Roadrunners put together a seven-run ninth inning to cut the lead to five, but LA Tech was able to close things out to set up Sunday's chance of a series sweep on the road.

Cameron Linck started for the Bulldogs and held UTSA to just three hits to pick up his third win of the season. Linck (3-0) allowed two runs, walked five and struck out five in 5.1 innings of work before Adam Derouen came on in the sixth. Derouen held the Roadrunners scoreless on one hit in an inning and two-thirds on the mound. Zack Hamilton came on in the eighth and pitched 1.2 innings before Mark Baughman finished the night by getting the last out of the game in the ninth.

Chase Lunceford led the Bulldogs at the dish with a 3-for-4 effort with a triple, four RBI's, three runs scored and a walk, while Brent Diaz was 3-for-4 with a double and RBI. Chandler Hall went 2-for-3 at the plate with two doubles, three RBI's, two walks and a stolen base, his 18th of the season. Marshall Boggs contributed by going 2-for-4 with a double, two RBI's, two walks and three runs scored. LA Tech totaled 13 hits in the victory.
