Linck, Harris Pitch Tech Past Titans

Box Score June 5, 2016

Final Stats

STARKVILLE, Miss. (June 5, 2016) ââ'¬" Louisiana Tech junior Cameron Linck saved one of his best performances for the biggest stage, tossing six strong innings to lead the Bulldogs to a 6-2 win over Cal State Fullerton in an elimination game of the Starkville Regional at Dudy Noble Field.

With the win, Tech advanced to tonight's regional championship against Mississippi State at 6:30 p.m. If LA Tech wins tonight, it would have to come back Monday night and beat MSU again in order to advance to the Super Regional

Linck (4-1) picked up his fourth win of the year, allowing only two runs on four hits and one walk while striking out five against a Titans team that advanced to the College World Series last year.

After being shut out by the Titans staff in the first game of the tournament, LA Tech made sure to not make the same mistake twice and took an early 1-0 lead over Cal State Fullerton in the second inning of Sunday's game.

CSF starter Connor Seabold entered the game with just seven walks all season, but the right-hander issued two in the second inning alone before leaving the game with an injury. Reliever Scott Serigstad came on with bases loaded and two outs and Bryce Stark drew an RBI walk to bring home the first run of the game for a 1-0 LA Tech lead.

LA Tech plated two more runs in the fourth thanks to base hits by Chandler Hall and Bryce Stark and an error by the Titans to extend the lead to 3-0 over Cal State Fullerton.

The bats stayed hot in the fifth when the Bulldogs tacked on an insurance run after a double by Jonathan Washam and RBI single by Chase Lunceford to make it a 4-0 advantage for LA Tech after five innings of play.

Cal State Fullerton cut the lead to two runs in the top half of the sixth after a walk led to a single, wild pitch and two-RBI base hit by Titan first baseman Tanner Pinkston, but the threat came to an end when Bryce Stark threw out Pinkston who was trying to stretch a single into a double.

Tech responded in the sixth as Jordan Washam led off with a single, moved to second on a sacrifice bunt and scored on an RBI single by Raphael Gladu through the right side of the infield.

Nate Harris came on in relief of Linck to start the seventh. In the eighth Cal State Fullerton recorded back-to-back singles, but Harris retired the top two hitters for the Titans on a fly out and strike out to end the threat.

The Bulldogs added a late insurance run in the bottom of the eighth. Once again Jordan Washam reached on a walk, advanced to second on a throwing error and then moved to third on a sacrifice bunt by Chandler Hall. Washam then scored on a sacrifice fly by JD Perry.

Harris picked up his fifth save of the season, allowing no runs on three hits over the final three innings of the game.

Jordan and Johnathan Washam led Tech with two hits each while Bryce Stark recorded two RBI.

It marked the 42nd win of the season for LA Tech, the most since 1988 and the fourth most in program history.
