CHOUDRANT, La. -- Freshmen Joacim Ahlund and Felix Paulson paced Louisiana Tech in the opening day of the 2016 fall season but the Bulldogs faltered on the back nine in both the first and second rounds and currently sit in 9th place at the Jim Rivers Intercollegiate heading into Tuesday morning's final round at Squire Creek Country Club.

Tech sat at two-under-par and one shot off the lead midway through the opening round, but the final nine holes of the morning weren't as friendly. The Bulldogs shot 10 over par to finish with a first round team total of eight-over-par 296 to sit in a two-way tie for ninth place.

The afternoon round played out eerily similar as Tech once again started strong. The Bulldogs were at even par through the first nine holes before the back nine saw LA Tech shoot 13-over. Tech's two-round total of 21-over-par has it sitting in ninth place.

Ahlund and Paulson, a pair of freshman from Sweden playing in their first collegiate tournament, led Tech. Ahlund shot a 36-hole total of three-over-par 145, including an opening round of two-under-par 70, and is tied for 16th place.

Paulson shot the best afternoon round for a Bulldog as his one-over-par 73 led the way. He is currently in a tie for 36th place at five-over-par 149.

Sophomore Hunter Glenn (74-76=150, T42nd), senior John Lewis Sams (76-77=153, T48th) and sophomore Luke Neely (77-79-156, 64th) rounded out the Bulldogs competing in the team competition. Tech had four players competing as individuals in the event, including Hayden Frederick (73-73=146, T21st), Charles Neel White (78-74=152, T46th), Karsten Green (79-75=154, T54th) and Jacob Wyatt (83-82=165, 73rd).

Lamar's Zander Gous (64-72=136) leads the 75 competitors at eight-under par. ULM (283-290=573) leads the team competition, holding a one stroke lead over Central Arkansas followed by Lamar (578), Houston Baptist (580), Southern Miss (580), WKU (584), Southeastern Louisiana (590), Missouri State (591), LA Tech (597), SFA (598), Abilene Christian (601), Incarnate Word (606) and New Orleans (618).

Tuesday's final round begins at 8 a.m.
