Houston, Texas - Louisiana Tech (8-7, 0-1 C-USA) opened Conference USA play on Sunday afternoon in Houston, Texas, falling to Rice (9-7, 2-0 C-USA) in straight sets (25-18, 25-14, 25-12).
LA Tech was led by Angie Papach who recorded a game-high 15 kills and Hannah Wright who had six kills to go along with a .625 attacking percentage. Alejandra Aviles who is nearing the Lady Techsters career record for digs, led the defensive effort with 13 assists.
Brooke Shoot had another good game, registering 25 assists.
LA Tech registered a .257 attacking percentage in the first set, but could not slow down the Owls attack, which was propelled by Chelsey Harris who recorded 15 kills and a .636 attacking percentage.
After falling behind 17-9 in the first set, the Lady Techsters fought back, scoring nine of the next 14 points to cut the deficit to 22-18. The Owls would score the next three points to win the set.
Louisiana Tech will continue C-USA play this Friday, Sept. 30 in their conference opener against nationally-ranked WKU at 7 p.m. Admission to the contest will be free.
