Diamond Dogs Clinch Series at FIU, 10-6

MIAMI, Fla. - The hot-hitting Bulldogs reeled off their seventh consecutive victory on Saturday night in Miami, as Louisiana Tech (32-14, 13-10 C-USA) clinched the series over FIU (26-23, 10-13 C-USA) with a 10-6 victory at FIU Baseball Field.

Raphael Gladu continued to be nearly unstoppable at the plate, collecting five more hits at the dish, bringing his weekend total to seven. Gladu scored a team-high three runs and also drove in another run.

Jonathan Washam and Marshall Boggs each picked up three hits in the win. Washam drove in a season-high three runs, while Boggs also drove in three runs.

Colby Hamilton was the only other Bulldog to collect multiple hits, picking up two on Saturday night.

Nate Harris moved to 7-0 on the season, tossing 6.2 innings and striking out nine. Harris did give up a season-high four earned runs.

In the top of the third, Louisiana Tech loaded the bases with one out and Brent Diaz was hit by a pitch to force home the first run of the game. The next batter, Chase Lunceford, singled to right to bring home a run and an error brought home the third run of the inning.

LA Tech wasn't done yet though as a two-RBI single from Jonathan Washam scored two more and gave the Bulldogs an early 5-0 lead.

Louisiana Tech added two more runs in the fourth inning, on a two-RBI single from Marshall Boggs.

FIU got on the board for the first time in the fifth inning with a lone run, but an RBI-single from Jonathan Washam in the top of the sixth extended the lead back to seven runs a 8-1. The Panthers responded with two runs of their own in the bottom half to cut their deficit to 8-3.

The Diamond 'Dogs got one of those runs back in the top of the seventh on an RBI-single from Gladu. FIU once again responded with two runs in the bottom of the seventh, cutting the LA Tech lead to 9-5.

Louisiana Tech got a run for the third straight inning on an RBI-double from Sean Ullrich down the left field line, scoring Chase Lunceford from first. Ullrich's double gave LA Tech a 10-5 lead.

LA Tech and FIU will meet for the series finale tomorrow afternoon at 12 p.m. CT in Miami. Matt Miller will get the start for the Bulldogs. The series finale will be broadcast on ESPN 97.7 and streamed on CUSA.TV.
