LA Tech Tennis Opens Season at Spring Kickoff Invite

Jan. 12, 2018

RUSTON ââ'¬" After making a lot of progress in the fall, the Louisiana Tech women's tennis team looks to continue to build confidence when they open its season on Saturday morning at the Spring Kickoff Invite in Troy, Alabama at the Lunsford Tennis Complex.

Five LA Tech players ââ'¬" Sonia Chen, Paulina Cota, Karla De La Luz Montalvo, Nadja Manjon and Andrea Perez-Lopez ââ'¬" will participate in the event hosted by Troy. Other teams competing are Murray State and Central Arkansas.

"We want to get some good matches in and get back into match mode," head coach Amanda Stone said. "It will be a good opportunity against good competition to see some combinations in doubles and see how much fight we have to start the new season."

The junior Chen leads the team into the invitational after having an incredible fall, posting an 11-2 singles record while claiming the B Singles title at the ITA Southern Regionals.

The Lady Techsters also participated in the Warhawk Invitational, the HEB Invitational and the Bearkat Invitational. They will take part in two non-dual tournaments to begin the spring slate.

Play will begin at 9 a.m. with two rounds of doubles and one round of singles taking place on Saturday. Then there will be two rounds of singles and one round of doubles on Sunday with the chance for more play on Monday.
