LA Tech Hosts Arkansas State in Weekend Set

RUSTON, La. – On the heels of a dramatic 5-3, 12-inning road win on Tuesday evening, the Louisiana Tech baseball team will look to carry the momentum into its second home weekend series of 2019, as the team welcomes the Arkansas State Red Wolves to J.C. Love Field at Pat Patterson Park this weekend.

The Bulldogs (6-2) and Red Wolves (7-2) will open the series on Friday at a 6 p.m., followed by a Saturday afternoon contest scheduled for 2 p.m. and Sunday's matinee set for 1 p.m.

LA Tech dropped its first home series of the year a week ago, falling two games to one to the visiting Troy Trojans. However, Tech showed no ill effects from the disappointing weekend outcome and pulled out a gutsy extra-inning midweek triumph over Little Rock on Tuesday.

The Bulldogs finished the month of February with a 6-2 record. Since head coach Lane Burroughs made his arrival to Tech two years ago, the Bulldogs have posted a 19-6 record in the month of February. Additionally, Tech is 42-18 against non-conference competition dating back to 2017.

Arkansas State enters this weekend set after a midweek two-game sweep over Mississippi Valley State. Prior to that, the Red Wolves completed a three-game home sweep of Valparaiso, which has carried over into their current five-game winning streak.

The Bulldog offense has been clicking early on for head coach Lane Burroughs and Co. as the 'Dogs have notched 10+ hits in all but one of their games so far this season. Tech has also scored 10+ runs in four of its eight contests after scoring 10+ runs in 14 contests last season.

This will be the 118th meeting between Tech and Arkansas State, and the first since the 2017 season in which the two teams split a pair of matchups in Jonesboro. The Bulldogs and Red Wolves have not met in Ruston since 2000 when Tech took a 2-1 series win.

This home series is the second for the Bulldogs this season, and kicks a stretch of 14 home tilts in the month of March for Tech.

Tech is scheduled to send right-hander Tyler Follis (1-1, 2.77 ERA, 13.0 IP, 12 K, 2 BB) for Friday night's start. The junior made his first start of the season last weekend versus Troy and made it through 6.2 innings, allowing four runs (all earned) on four hits while striking out two. Tech's Saturday and Sunday pitchers have yet to be announced.

Meanwhile, Arkansas State is scheduled to throw RHP Zach Johnson (0-0, 3.09 ERA, 11.2 IP, 13 K, 2 BB) on Friday, LHP Chandler Coates (2-0, 1.50 ERA, 12.0 IP, 12 K, 3 BB) on Saturday and RHP Nate Alberius (1-0, 2.70 ERA, 10.0 IP, 8 K, 3 BB) on Sunday.

All three games this weekend will be streamed live on CUSA.tv (subscription required) and broadcast live on KNBB 97.7 FM and through the LA Tech X Mobile App with Teddy Allen on the call for all three contests.
