Bulldogs Conclude Homestand Tuesday vs. Mississippi Valley State

RUSTON, La. – The Louisiana Tech baseball team will look to get back on track in the final game of its current five-game homestand, hosting Mississippi Valley State this Tuesday at 6 p.m. from J.C. Love Field at Pat Patterson Park.
The Bulldogs (11-8, 0-3 C-USA) were swept by the visiting Southern Miss Golden Eagles in the opening weekend of C-USA play this past weekend, and will look to right the ship against the Delta Devils (2-7, 1-3 SWAC), who dropped two of three to Jackson State over the weekend.
Senior first baseman Mason Mallard is leading the charge offensively for the Bulldogs so far in 2019 on the strength of a .347 batting average, 25 base hits, four home runs and 18 RBIs. Mallard also leads the 'Dogs in slugging (.556) and on-base percentage (.448), while converting on seven of his nine stolen-base attempts. More impressively – the converted outfielder has committed just one error in his 19 starts at first base this season.
MVSU is paced by infielder Fredrick Spencer, who leads the team with a .379 batting average, along with three RBI. The Delta Devils are hitting .217 as a team with 20 RBI in nine games.
Junior center fielder Parker Bates remains one of the hottest hitters for the Bulldogs, as he hit safely in each of Tech's four games last week, extending his team-best hitting streak to 15 games. Over that stretch, Bates is hitting .333 with eight extra-base hits (six doubles, two home runs) and 15 RBI. For the season, he leads the team with 22 RBI, after leading last year's squad with 50.
All-time, the Bulldogs and Delta Devils have met 11 times with Tech owning an 11-0 record during that span. The first meeting came in Ruston, back in 2001, and the most recent matchup occurred in 2011 with Tech taking a 5-4 victory.
The Bulldogs will send right-hander Matt Miller (1-0, 6.00 ERA, 21.0 IP, 24 K, 13 BB) to the bump, making his fifth start of the year.
