
Diamond ‘Dogs Travel to Middle Tennessee for Weekend Set

RUSTON, La. – The Louisiana Tech baseball team will look to carry its momentum from a midweek triumph over into Conference USA play this weekend, traveling to Murfreesboro, Tennessee, to take on the Middle Tennessee Blue Raiders in a three-game set.
The Bulldogs (12-8, 0-3 C-USA) and Blue Raiders (7-13, 2-1 C-USA) will play Friday at 6 p.m., Saturday at 4 p.m. and Sunday at 1 p.m. from Reese Smith Jr. Field on the campus of Middle Tennessee.
Most recently, LA Tech snapped its three-game losing skid with a 21-1 midweek triumph over Mississippi Valley State. In the one-sided slugfest, the Bulldogs notched season highs in runs (21), hits (18), RBIs (19) and total bases (30). Tech also saw a complete effort on the mound, as eight different pitchers combined to allow just one unearned run.
The Bulldogs were swept at the hands of Southern Miss to open league play last weekend, as the Golden Eagles scored 27 runs in the series.
Meanwhile, Middle Tennessee enters the weekend having dropped its midweek contest to Lipscomb by an 8-6 final. The Blue Raiders did however, take two of three from UTSA on the road to open league action last weekend.
The Bulldogs are led offensively by Mason Mallard, who paces the team in batting average (.365) and on-base percentage (.484). Fellow senior Mason Robinson leads the 'Dogs in hits with 28 entering the weekend, and is second on the team in total bases with 43.
Junior Parker Bates owns the team lead in RBI, already racking up 23 through the first 20 games of the season. Last year, Bates finished the season as the team's RBI leader with 50.
The Blue Raiders come into the weekend hitting .241 as a team, but have seen strong showing on the mound this year, posting a 3.35 team ERA through their first 20 games.
Tech and Middle Tennessee have met 21 times in their histories, with Middle owning a slight 11-10 edge in the overall series. Last season, the Blue Raiders took two of three from the Bulldogs in Ruston.
LA Tech is projected to stick with its usual weekend rotation of RHP Matt Miller, LHP Logan Robbins and LHP Logan Bailey. Middle Tennessee will counter with RHP Carson Lester (0-1, 3.25 ERA), LHP Peyton Wigginton (1-1, 4.40 ERA) and TBA.
All three games will be streamed live on CUSA.tv (subscription required) and will be broadcast on KNBB 97.7 FM with Dave Nitz on the call.
