RUSTON, La. – Louisiana Tech senior
Taylor Stahly picked up another honor on Wednesday as she joined 13 other Conference USA student-athletes in earning the Air Force Reserve C-USA Winter Spirit of Service Award.
The award is designed to recognize the community service efforts of the league's top student-athletes, based upon significant community service, good academic standing and participation in their elected sport. The Spirit of Service Award is presented three times throughout the season with today's honorees representing winter sports: men's and women's basketball, men's and women's indoor track & field and women's swimming & diving.
The Newton, Kansas, native joins Taylor Parcells (Charlotte, Women's Indoor Track & Field), Alexa Bryant (FIU, Women's Swimming & Diving), Kelsey Witkay (Florida Atlantic, Women's Swimming & Diving), Kristen Mayo (Marshall, Women's Basketball), Alex Johnson (Middle Tennessee, Women's Basketball), Meaghan Rousset (North Texas, Women's Swimming & Diving), Amanda Caruso (Old Dominion, Women's Swimming & Diving), Hanna Huston (Rice, Women's Swimming & Diving), Lina May (Southern Miss, Women's Indoor Track & Field), Rachael Childress (UAB, Women's Basketball), Katarina Zec (UTEP, Women's Basketball), Tija Hawkins (UTSA, Women's Basketball) and Moustapha Diagne (WKU, Men's Basketball) as the winter sports recipients.
Stahly was named third team Google Cloud Academic All-American presented by CoSIDA in March and is a 2-time Conference USA All-Academic Team, a 2-time C-USA Commissioner's Honor Roll and a 2-time C-USA Academic Medalist. She boasts a 4.0 grade points average in college.
On the court, she averaged 8.2 points per game (2
nd on team) this season while hitting 63 three-pointers this year, most on team. She finished her LA Tech career with 148 three-pointers made, fourth most in program history, while starting 46 games and seeing action in 60 games in her LA Tech career.
During her time in Ruston, Stahly has been heavily involved in the community, volunteering her time with activities such as Dogs With A Cause, the AE Phillips Pep Rally, Thank-A-Thon, Mardi Gras Parade, Faculty and Staff Luncheon, Student-Athlete Advisory Committee's Loyal Blue Boxes Fundraisers, Buddy Ball, Rock Steady Boxing, the DART Pumpkin Patch, and the Med Camps Halloween Celebration.
