NORFOLK, Va. – The Louisiana Tech baseball team returns to Conference USA action this weekend, taking on the Old Dominion Monarchs in a three-game series from the Bud Metheny Baseball Complex on the campus of ODU.
LA Tech (28-17, 12-9) enters the weekend on its longest skid of the year, currently at five games, but still finds itself in the top half of the C-USA standings with three weeks remaining in the regular season.
Meanwhile, Old Dominion (27-17, 9-12 C-USA) enters the weekend with wins in four of its last six games including a midweek win over Virginia Tech and a weekend series win over Florida Atlantic.
The two teams will play Friday at 6 p.m. (5 p.m. CT), Saturday at 3 p.m. (2 p.m. CT) and Sunday at 1 p.m. (12 p.m.). Friday's game will be streamed on ESPN+, while Saturday and Sunday's contests can be viewed on CUSA.tv.
Last season, these two clubs met in the final regular season league series of the year, where Tech captured a three-game sweep in Ruston.
All-time, Tech leads the overall series 8-7 over the Monarchs, with the Bulldogs staking wins in six of the last seven meetings. The two teams met for the first time in 2014, where the Monarchs took two of three from the Bulldogs in Ruston.
Tech continues to be led offensively by first baseman Mason Mallard, who leads the team with a .369 average along with a .530 slugging percentage and 18 stolen bases (4th-most in C-USA).
The Bulldogs will make a change in their starting rotation, keeping Matt Miller on Friday night, and bringing in left-hander David Leal for Saturday's contest. Logan Bailey will remain the team's Sunday starter. Leal will be making his first weekend start of the season, after coming back from a foot injury suffered less than a week before the start of the 2019 campaign.
ODU is slated to start left-hander Tommy Gertner (1-0, 3.03 ERA) on Friday. Saturday and Sunday's starters are to be determined.
