RUSTON, La. – Louisiana Tech head coach Matt Terry announced Friday the addition of Payne Johnson (Shreveport, La.) to the 2020-21 golf roster.
 
"We are excited to add Payne to the team," Terry said. "He is an outstanding local player and a solid student. We are very glad to make this great addition to an already strong roster."
 
Johnson graduated from C. E. Byrd High School in 2020 and was a four-year starter on the golf team. He helped lead Byrd to back-to-back Louisiana Class 5A state championships in 2018 and 2019 where he also finished in the top five individually. Johnson had three top-10 American Junior Golf Association finishes, and he was named the Allstate Sugar Bowl Tommy Moore Memorial Champion in 2019. Johnson started his collegiate career at Texas State before making the switch to LA Tech.
