LA Tech Begins Four-Game Home Stand

Hosts UTSA on Friday and Incarnate Word, Arkansas State on Saturday

RUSTON – Having only played three matches in Ruston so far this spring season, the Louisiana Tech tennis team will now prepare for a four-game home stand which gets underway on Friday versus UTSA at 1 p.m. at the Ruston Sports Complex.

The Lady Techsters will turn around and play a pair of matches on Saturday against Incarnate Word at 9 a.m. and Arkansas State at 2 p.m.

Friday will mark the third straight C-USA matchup for LA Tech (7-5, 1-1 C-USA) who is coming off a narrow 4-3 loss to North Texas and a 5-2 victory over UTEP.

Junior Claudia Oravcova shined over the weekend, registering two singles wins and teaming up with Ana Jover to take two doubles victories.  The duo has won five straight doubles matches and eight of their last 10.

In singles, Oravcova has a team-best three-game winning streak.  She is currently one of four Lady Techsters with at least six dual singles wins along with Jover, Alexia Romero and Ilana Tetruashvili.

UTSA (4-3) will play the first of its seven league matches this spring.  The Roadrunners have won back-to-back matches against UT Rio Grande Valley and Texas A&M-Corpus Christi.  LA Tech leads the all-time series, 3-1, but UTSA won the last meeting two years ago by a score of 4-2 in San Antonio.

Incarnate Word (3-3) also defeated UTRGV recently by a score of 4-3.  This will mark the fourth straight year facing the Cardinals who came out on top last season, 4-1, in San Antonio.

Arkansas State (0-3) has only played three spring matches, falling in all three to Central Arkansas, UAB and Samford.  LA Tech won the last meeting in the series back in 2018.
